Just something for the weekend which I noticed just now while trying out some random “haven’t done that in a while” queries, AltaVista is still (after I beleive two years of time) ranking #1 on Google for “search“, followed by Search.com, Excite and Lycos. I wonder why. Funny isn’t it, the word “search” on AltaVista.com is only used twice, compared to three times on google.com, seven times on yahoo.com, and three times on search.msn.com. Google, Yahoo! and MSN (Search) even have more links than AltaVista — really questions the Google algo.
Maybe Google’s just being pure nice to AltaVista, Lycos and Excite — three major search engines of the 90s. 😉
