It’s good to see Northern Light coming back as a niche this time rather than another LookSmart. But the thing is, you gotta pay for it (and both aren’t meant for a general audience, so that’s understandtable).
Northern Light News Engine
The Northern Light News Engine is basically a news search engine which gets upto 7000 news stories every day from 70 newswires, updated every two minutes. It includes custimization and also Search Alerts. You could call it a paid Google or Yahoo! News with a touch of Findory, but I can’t say much without trying it out. It costs $500 per year, but you can also take a 30-day trial which costs $50 and you have to cancel it within 30 days and only then will you complete your trial (cheeky).
Northern Light Business Research Engine
The Business Research Engine, is meant for, as summed up by Northern Light:
Competitive intelligence professionals, market researchers, product planners, corporate librarians, sales people, or any business professional with a significant need to do research on companies, markets, and trends.
It includes a large amount of features, most-notably Custom Search Folders, APIs, and Search Alerts. It costs $50 per month for an individual or a $19,500 anual fee for a company with unlimited everything. Pretty cheap I guess, if you really need it.
