Google Acquires Mobile-Networking Service Dodgeball

Seriously, it is. If you thought podcasting was amazing, what I’ll write about now is much more amazing. My webhost, Michael, informed me today about a service called ShoutCast, which basically lets anyone with a fast Internet connection become a DJ. For free. And for as long as you want.

Michael tells me that the process is simple: Install Winamp (if you haven’t already). Download the plugin (well, read the manual with it). Follow the instructions in the manual, install and run.

I haven’t tried this yet, but I think it’s pretty cool that you can say anything, play anything (on Winamp), fade it, crossfade it, do everything what a DJ does and tell your friends to listen to it. Now isn’t that much more amazing than listening to something on your iPod (I don’t mean to bash podcasting here, but really, podcasting is nothing but enclosures. People used to put out MP3s way back in the Internet days, circa 1998.)
