Wow, now this is some real technlogy — faster than snap, more customizable that MSN, and cooler than Froogle and Google — comes Yahoo! Mindset. Well I have to say, it all started when the talk about sliders in search became well-discussed. MSN was the first to do it, although not completely, in their new search engine (no longer “new” 😉 ), Google I think touched it a bit with a Google Labs service I can’t seem to recall and it seems it has gone now, but Yahoo!, now with mindset, seems to have been the first one to do it, completely.
If you haven’t tried it out yet, dude, what are you reading this blabber for, go ahead and try it. If you have, I kindly request you to carry on reading :). Searchers, and I know I am one, many times are looking to buy something. Other times, they want information — what’s it like, how much does it cost, will this benefit me. Now that I think about it, the traditional type of searching was simply a barrier which didn’t allow the searcher to do what he or she wanted without having the searcher to change the query or add a word or two in front of it.
This new project from the Yahoo! Labs says “stuff that” to getting the searcher to change the query, and says “let me do it for you, all you have to do is drag your mouse”. The fact that it does it is amazing, I know, but it does it so fast, is great to see. One of the best examples of this is a query on “hybrid cars“. Try it yourself, manipulate the slider, you’ll know what I mean. I see this as another advancement in search, and it shouldn’t be too long until MSN (improves) and Google follow.
