Wow, and I was thinking Atom was dead! (since there was zero talk on it for the past few months, probably even a year.) Who does Atom feeds anyway? Oh, that’s right, Google! No wonder they still have it running.
Tim Bray, that Sun guy you might’ve heard of, announces they’ve released a new version of Atom, Atom 1.0. He even posts a comparison here with RSS 2.0. You know what I think? It’s not gonna work guys, unless you are SIGNIFICANTLY and ‘INTO THE FUTURE’ style better than RSS 2.0.
Having two elements, “content” and “summary,” instead of RSS’s “description” isn’t exactly what we call ‘SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER’ and ‘INTO THE FUTURE’. These are just things I’m sure the folks working on RSS HAVE looked before and possibly, actually SURELY will be fixing in the next release.
Why can’t people just realise that one single format can be good for the web? Why do they have to come up with competition? Ok, I’m really starting to get the urge of barging into Blogger’s team and yelling at them, kindly requesting to change from Atom to RSS. It will make the ‘world’ (haha, get it?) of difference.
