One of the challenges search engines faced in Web 1.0, which Google still does I think (Yahoo! did, but doesn’t any more with this service) is accessing restricted content, one of those annoying ‘register before you can view’ content you see mostly on news media websites. I first learnt about this with Gary Price and Chris Sherman’s The invisibilities Web which by the way is a bit outdated now, but still a great read. Yahoo! has just filled this up with “Search Subscriptions (Beta)“.
I think Yahoo! is doing a great job lately of filling up the old “can’t be done” search engine myths. They did it first about a couple of weeks ago with Yahoo! Mindset, and now with Search Subscriptions. This really shows they’ve been listening to the search community and as that American Idol judge whose name I can’t remember now would say, I give them props for that.
Go check it out yourself, see how this helps you (and if it doesn’t, forget I ever wrote this post 😉 ).
