News in RSS: Google Finally Did It!

Blogging to Podcasting to?.?

It seems that it took forever for Google to realise that no, ‘alerts’ wasn’t enough and they NEEDED to have something for RSS crowd. Yahoo! was the first one to realise this, they’ve been doing it for quite quite some time, and I’m very delightful to say that Google now has RSS for Google News. Yes, you may notice that they’re in roughly the same style of the Yahoo! News RSS feeds, except that Yahoo! has gone a step further and lets you create a search feed while Google offers an example.

I just have to say one thing in response: thanks Google! Thanks for realising RSS, or rather “searcher-end-API” does matter. Thanks for not letting your love of Atom (as you did with Blogger) not letting get in the way of those hundreds of thousands of librarians, researchers, students, who use Google News on a daily basis and have been really wanting a syndication service as such. Thanks.

On related news that I can’t bother to comment upon: Yahoo! claims to have an index of 20 billion pages, that is, web documents. Big number. Watch Battelle for up-to-date report on this.
