The folks are FireFox are helding a competition called Extend FireFox. The idea is simple: make a cool plugin. But unlike before when all you did is post it and received feedback to it and collaborated with some other users to fix a bug, you actually enter it into a competition. The prize? You can see it write beside this writing. An awesome Alienware PC which beleive it or not has almost the same specs as my home computer I’m writing this post on. Only difference is that mine is a Compaq.
The reason I’m posting about this is simple. I want to see some cool plugins. I mean, don’t we all? I check out the FireFox Extensions almost daily and just the idea of a new pplugin excites me. I guess it’s the inner nerdyness, or maybe my love of cool things such as plugins, APIs, etc. but if someone develops a cool plugin and wins the prize — I’d be most happy for him.
Just to sum up, if you’re one of those people who likes developing plugins, being involvedi n open source projects, or just wants the prize, have a go and remember to keep users like me in mind. Take that extra effort, for example if you see a tiny UI problem, fix it don’t ignore it. All these little things add up to an awesome awesome plugin which everyone talks about and which basically in the long term help lives. Good luck!
