Feedster goes Podster

Scott Johnson over at Feedster announced today that they’re doing podcasts now. Yes, your very own Feedster podcast search. From what I can see on a few minutes’ glance, it’s not an episode search engine — you just find podcasts and have the option to play the latest episode. This is a shame for many, because say if you’re looking for a podcast (episode) which talked about eBay’s acquisiting of Skype — you’re not going to get it unless you type into google: "ebay" "skype" "podcast" which I is good, but seriously if podcasting is going to last even a while — it’s not enough.

I think it’s an excellent move by Feedster — we really need a few search engine in the growing podcasting market, but really, iif all I can do with it is find podcasts (which mind you I can do in a hundred places), it’s not worth anything to me. Unless they have the episode search, they don’t have me (as a user).

Both http://blinkx.com and http://podscope.com use speech recognition software to do “full text-audio search” of podcast episodes. I also tried Google searching “podcast shownotes ‘eBay buying Skype’” and that got some results.

Actually…we do podcast searches by show and episode. Check the pull down menu after the search field.

Hmm…I swear that wasn’t there when I wrote this post, or else I’m sure I would’ve seen it. In any case, that’s awesome, I may actually be switch to using it for my searches.

    Hi Sid,

Well depending on when you looked at it, it actually might NOT have been there. We added episode search 3 days after we implemented the initial Podcast search. We had to wait for the weekend’s cleanup indexing cycle so episodes got indexed.

    Hi Scott,
Thanks for your correspondence and clearing it up. Yes, I think you’re right — because I remember I wrote this post as soon as I saw Podcast search on Feester, possible the day you implemented the initial podcast search.

I tried it out and I really like it. Great job with Feedster.
