Skype 2.0 is out and it features video as well. I could’ve posted about this a long time ago but decided to try it out first. Have to say, I’m merily impressed — shows eBay did have some money left after Skype’s whopping 1 billion acquisition. Ok, so it isn’t eye-scratching technology, but it still works (not as good as one would like it to, though). They’ve changed some stuff in 2.0 and made it better in many aspects (including voice-quality and UI changes) but I still don’t think Skype’s the future yet.
Om Malik has some interesting comments on this and do countless others, so everything I could say about this has already been said. Although, I would suggest to eBay to make a Skype (2.0) version for smartphones, etc. 3G + Video Calling (through the camera of the phone) = awesome [and hopefully with Skype, less expensive].
