Web 2.0 is like 1.0 again — different ideas ranging from big to small, all different in their own right, trying to see what works and what doesn’t with a new ‘2.0′ style. themintpages, a valley based startup, is a new site which allows sharing product reviews and experiences along with the usual 2.0: tagging, rating, commenting, bookmarking, big fonts, the works.
The reason themintpages interests me is because it looks like an idea on first glace that actually works (even on a smaller scale, as it is as of this writing) and has a ton of potential. A majority of the ‘most-discussed’ items on the front page actually matter to an average consumer (“Eyeshadow/satin on Macs,” “Shocking volume on L’Oreal products,” ” Volume shampoo” etc.)
Most of these experiences and reviews someone has bothered to share are actually quite universal and on a large-scale, they’ll work. themintpages is an interesting one to watch because in my view this is the exact kind of thing I see succeeding in Web 2.0 that might not have had a chance in 1.0. This isn’t exactly a technical review, but I’ll rate it 3.87/5.0.
