Friendster Wins Social Networking Patent

By admin    July 8th, 2006

Friendster (specifically its founder Jonatham Abrams as the 'inventor') was recently awarded the patent for social networking (RedHerring). Now I'm a bit unsure of the impact this might cause. On one hand, Friendster might chase the tens of 2.0 social networks and ask them to pay or on the other hand they might just leave them alone. In any case, I think this is an important milestone for Web 2.0 as a whole: the patents are coming in.
