Agloco may or may not work. The same could have been said about YouTube - and look at that. Anyway if you or others are interested, check out my site by clicking on my name above.

Michal, I am aware programs like these existed pre-Web 1.0 days, but I think what makes Angloco unique is the fact that it has a chance. It's not some quick buck dreamup concept, it's a toolbar combined with a web-based side to it which so far seems ethical.

The "gaming the system" factor is always there, of course, but I think it seems unusually high with Angloco. It's almost like a concept like this couldn't exist without it. I guess this doesn't really affect Angloco in the end though -- it's their advertisers and affiliates that get the hit.

And what makes it 'good' spyware is the fact that it contains ads. It's not simply a handy toolbar with a search button (like the Google toolbar), it's a toolbar with a search button and advertising -- and all kinds of monetization schemes. Now THAT'S where it differs widely from the Google toolbar.

To be honest, I have mixed opinions about Angloco. In one way it's brilliant, but the fact that it's so brilliant on its side makes it stupid for its advertisers and affiliates.

Programs like agloco were known to men since the days before the dot com crash, it's nothing new and certainly not Web 2.0.

Concerning "gaming the system": There will be always people trying to do it, no matter what kind of money making service you are using (hint: AdSense).

And why is it spyware? I guess that according to your opinion the Google Toolbar is spyware also...
