Creating employee schedules can be a huge headache, and making sure those employees know when they work can be even more difficult. Rotaboard is a simple online work schedule creation tool which could help employees and employers alike.
How it Works
Rotaboard is a free service which does require registration. After signing up, the calendar is displayed with a list of employees on the left and the week’s dates on the top. This is a simple layout, and it is the one most employers I have worked for have used. Below each date, each employees shift is listed in a color that stands out. The calendar uses drag and drop AJAX technology, and does allow for recurring shifts.
The greatest thing about this service is that your employees can access your calendar from home. This means that hopefully there will be no more missed days because an employee was not aware that they were scheduled. Also, schedules can be sent with a notification service via email, and schedules can be password protected.
Opinion
This site would have been so helpful at many of my past jobs. Having to call work to check schedules is frustrating for both employers and employees. If an employer was to whole-heartedly adopt a solution like this, its usefulness would be apparent right away.
