Worst Website of the Week (WWW): Week 1

Prepare to experience the Rev2.org equivalent of nails on a chalkboard. Starting today, we’re going to try a new weekly series of the worst websites that we can possibly find. We write about cool Web 2.0 services and apps, cover breaking news, and give you with the most insightful analysis throughout the week, but a certain time comes when we too need a “break” from all the slick Web 2.0 reflections, icons, and beta signs with flash gradient backgrounds.

Call it weekend humor — prepare to laugh, prepare to cry, prepare to turn down the brightness on your monitor. We offer these examples of what is NOT Web 2.0 to encourage more subtle, aesthetically pleasing web design.

Week 1 – This Week’s Worst Website:
Dokimos.org/ajff

At first glance, this site is….well….it’s nauseating. Initially, you may notice the rainbow moving background that I thought was lost to the internet trashcan known as Geocities. However, Dokimos has taken the annoying rainbow background to a whole new level. This site has so many other features that you may miss them if I wasn’t here to lay them out for you, so here I go.

Running Cat Graphic
You may have to scroll down about 1/4″ to see it, but there is a cat graphic running across the bottom of your screen on the left. The cat is running backwards, probably trying its best to avoid the rainbow background blanketing the page.

Firefox Security Bar
I almost missed this unique usage of the Firefox toolbar at first. Load the site in Firefox and check out the top of the page. That is not your typical security warning.

SecondLife
If the layout, design, and functionality of this site hasn’t convinced you that the designer is an Internet mastermind, then maybe a visit to their SecondLife CyberChurch will do the trick.

Awards
For a list of the awards this site has received over the years, follow this link. Prepare to be less than astounded.

Opinion
Keep clicking around this site, and with each click I expect you will find a new page that could cause seizures in those who are not prepared. A click on the animated door graphic at the bottom of the screen will give you an idea of how much time some poor soul spent on this website.

Man that was an eye sore....I feel a headache coming...
What was with the back ground and why is that cat even there?

Also it won awards given by the same guy who built the site...now that was wrong.

Someone needs to learn about website layout and usage of colors.

i have a migraine now. that is the worst thing i've ever seen but the security notice was pretty clever. too bad they didn't apply that ingenuity to the rest of the page. i think this feature is going to be a highlight to my week!

Haha, yeah it would be better with just plain text.
  • WHY???

Surely it would've taken LESS effort to make this site better-designed.
