Jupitermedia Buys MediaBistro.com for $23 Million

MediaBistroJupitermedia announced today that it has acquired media professional job site Mediabistro.com for $23 million, to be paid in $20 million upfront cash and $3 million over the period of two years.

Founded back in 1996, Mediabistro has slowly grown into the industry standard place for jobs in the media industry. The site was founded by Laurel Touby who, according to the NYT report, managed to it turn “her popular cocktail parties into a high-traffic Web site for job-seeking media and creative professionals.”

The site supports a terribly low number of 50,000 unique visitors per month, but of course, one can imagine the visitors are highly targeted and the main reason behind this acquisition, more than anything, is Jupitermedia’s attempt to get back into the recruiting industry by integrating its job listings to its other online job postings site, JustTechJobs.
