Songkick: Your Concert Savvy Friend

Ok, so Last.fm and Pandora have done everything that’s musically possible on the web. Right? Well almost, but what about the concerts. That’s where Songkick comes in, a new service that lets you track concerts and tour dates of your favourite bands.

Here’s how it works. You can enter upto three artists on their homepage. For example, I entered The Decemberists, Arctic Monkeys, and Radiohead. Songkick then finds all the upcoming concerts of your entered bands — and similar artists — and presents them to you on one page. You can buy tickets from there, or alternatively, sign up and get e-mail alerts whenever the artists have upcoming concerts area.

Currently, the service supports most of the major cities in the US and UK, and are working on expandating it throughout. Apart from e-mail alerts of their favourite bands, users can also see a complete list of bands playing in their town, and the thing I love — download the Songkicker app for Mac or PC and get tour dates for all artists in their library!

Clearly, concerts are a huge thing in today’s young crowd (as they’ve been in the last couple decades), and Songkicker serves a superb niche is helping users find out about concerts being performed in their area from their favourite artists. The Mac/PC app also works amazingly and to anyone who attends concerts is a must to try out — that’s what makes Songkick kick ass.

It’s not as niche as you think – Last.fm already offers a service like this (http://www.last.fm/events/) – you give it where you live and it works out the acts you like or should like playing in your area. Works pretty well (especially as you can get updates delivered via RSS).

Chris — thanks for the pointer, I wasn’t aware of the service. Works really well, too — though the Songkick desktop app just kicks ass.
