Jet Blue Auctions On Ebay

JetBlue is using Ebay to auction off over 300 round-trip flights, and six vacation deals this week.  In a rather bold move, JetBlue is starting the auctions at $0.05 – $0.10.  Flights will be available from major cities such as Boston, Chicago, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, New York, Salt Lake City, and Southern California.

This is certainly a unique way to get people to talk about JetBlue and create a buzz.  What a great way to get people such as myself to write about them, and get free advertisements.  Of course these flights will only be available during certain dates and times.  The flight numbers will be revealed when a customer bids.

As for the vacation packages up for grabs, they include the airfare and a 4 night stay at Marriott hotels.  There are also 4 mystery packages being offered, two of which are international destinations and two domestic.  All auctions are uninclusive of taxes and aiport fees and differ for each route.  You must have a PayPal account to bid.

As of the writing of this article, the round trip flights from my area were well into the $200.00 range, so it appears this publicity stunt is working for them.  By the time the auctions are over the buyers will most likely save a couple of dollars, while giving JetBlue a priceless amount of publicity.  It is this outside the box thinking that has kept JetBlue a prominent player in the airline industry.  Other airlines should follow this trend and take the chance of giving away lower then average priced seats, but gaining indespensible exposure.
