Facebook Is Recruiting

Check out this great video Facebook put out in hopes of luring in engineers to their office. This nicely done HD video shows how facebook stores approximately 40 billion, yes billion images.  They have 2,000 photos uploaded every second.  This entire system was built with one engineer.

If only I had learn to code better, then I could apply!  As Dan Frommer from Silicon Alley Insider said “what engineer wouldn’t want to work there”.

MasterCard ATM App for Iphone

mastercard.pngEver find yourself at a restaurant that only accepted cash, only to realize that you have no money in your pocket.  Although you have just left your date sitting at the table to excuse yourself for a second, and try to find an ATM machine nearby…..where is the closest?

Well MasterCard has just unveiled and released their new iPhone app called ATM Hunter.  It enables users to quickly search an area for cash machines, by either entering an address, or airport, no matter where in the world you are.  Or if you have a 3G, you can simply allow the app to locate you and show you the nearest locations by GPS.atm_hunter.png

You can use this iPhone app to search for ATM’s to make a deposit, or to find your own bank to avoid any of those silly fees that some of these companies charge.  If you don’t care about the fees, cause you have a Rockefeller upbringing, then you can just do a search of all nearby ATM locations, including those that are located in local stores (not banks) and pick up some quick cash.  The app will also provide you with the distance between your chosen location and the nearest ATM, as well as providing you driving directions with a map to the ATM location.

Other helpful features that come by using this MasterCard app are the ability to search for ATM’s that are wheelchair accessible, and if it is a drive thru or walk up.

Tonight is another meetup of the Social Media Club of South Florida.  It smcsf.pngwill be taking place at Yahoo!  Hispanic Americas in Coral Gables.  1 Alhambra Plaza to be precise.  This month’s top is Social Media for business and will have Murray Izenwasser from Starmark discussing “Using Social Media Strategies To Drive Real Business.”

Alex de Carvalho (with the eyes that every girl goes crazy for) will be presenting “Social Media-Driven Innovation: Adopting Your Customers’ Best Ideas” as well.

ToBeeDo: To-do List That’s Unusually Useful

tobeedo.pngEvery time you turn around, another company is promoting their new task management tool or Web app. I often wonder if this isn’t the fastest-growing sector of Web application technology today. Web2.0 and social networking? Bah, that’s so last year. Today, it’s TASK MANAGEMENT, brother!

Okay, maybe I’m just getting tired of seeing so many lame options for such a mundane thing. Granted, the old days with the Post Its and cork boards are long gone for most of us, but how many new applications need to come out before task management is finally perfected?

Well, now that I’ve seen ToBeeDo, I might be persuaded to make the official announcement that the final day of task management has arrived. No new apps need apply.

Alright, I’m still exaggerating (some), but not nearly as much as you might think. Not only is this one extremely easy to use, but it’s actually managed to replace my old standby, Dorisapp. It’s still single-user or small group centric, which I prefer, and it’s highly intuitive to use—you’ll figure it out in about a minute and a half. Plus, it integrates with your Google login, which means it’s perfect for me because I’m a Gmail lover.

“I’m your Gmaillll loverrrr! Tell me there’s no otherrrrr!”

Once again, I digress. Here’s the skinny on ToBeeDo, though: easy, has all the features you expect, very elastic, and customizable. Projects can be as simple or complex as you prefer, to-do can become task management with only the addition of more information (or added bullet points/drop-downs) and time tracking can even be done for individual tasks or entire projects.

In all, ToBeeDo is a great app and has finally shown me that it’s possible to improve on something as mundane as task management. Maybe now they’ll start another site and finish off the tired world of project collaboration next.

Ebay Buys Korean Competitor Gmarket

Gmarket.pngEbay announced that they have won conditional approval from the South Korean watchdog agency to buy a controlling stake in the online retailer Gmarket Inc.  The price was $413.

Ebay will be buying 34.2 percent of Gmarket from the largest shareholder Interpark for $24 a share.  This is at a 32.5 percent premium over the closing price of $18.12.  The actual final contract will be signed by Wednesday.

Gmarket is listed on the Nasdaq and trades under the symbol GMKT.  Gmarket operates c2c (customer to customer) marketplaces around South Korea and has over 10 million registered members. This purchase will surely help eBay emerge as the main playing in the region.  Its only other competition will be from Internet Auction Co., who also might be a decent acquisition as many rumors would say.  Please note none of the Internet Auction Rumors have been confirmed.

rev2_twitter.pngIf many of our readers didn’t know by now, we have a twitter account under the name @rev2.  We put out all our posts there, and some ramblings every now and then.  Following us is a great way to ensure you see all the links to posts as soon as we put them up.  Not that feedburner doesn’t do a great job of delivering them like 2 hours later (ha ha).

We follow everyone who follows us on twitter by the way.  Not like some of the others out there who feel they are too important to follow their readers back.  Twitter is also a great way to tell us about your company and products if you want us to write about it.  Also a way to send out some breaking news to us on your companies.

See you all there!
