Private Box – Get a New Zealand Mailbox No Matter Where You Live

By Craig Agranoff    June 7th, 2009

privatebox.pngJust so our loyal New Zealander readers do not think we forgot our Sid’s roots, we have a New Zealand company to write about!

Private, online postal mail boxes are becoming more and more common. We’ve reviewed a few of them here before. This one is based in New Zealand, which has some advantages for many businesses. Wherever you’re located, your PrivateBox street or PO box address (your choice) is accessible online.

The service offers both mail forwarding and scanning. If they scan it, then they’ll open it, scan it, and you’ll be able to view it securely online. Originals can be flagged for forwarding to you or shredded and recycled, at your discretion.

Scanning is in full color and Private Box also offers check depositing if you have a New Zealand bank account for your business.

Rates aren’t too shabby, starting at $32.46/year for personal accounts and $77.92/year for business. Those are US Dollar conversions. Document scanning is also cheap, at about $0.13/page. NZ taxes are included in the pricing listed on their site. They also have affiliates who can get you a local New Zealand phone number with call forwarding and/or VOIP and fax.

The service is definitely something that many will want to try and it’s at a more than reasonable price.

Good informative post! Thanks. I'm interested in your comment “We've reviewed a few of them here before.”

When I rev2.or search “online postal mail boxes” I get no hits.

Would appreciate the reference back to “We've reviewed a few of them here before.” posts.

    Thanks!

Privatebox.co.nz is a scam. Please don't get trapped by them. They will take your money and disable the account without even informing you.

They will never respond. It is one man operation and not capable of doing business.

Usual response time for emails is 3 days to 1 week…and no use…

It is a scam. They scammed me too.

They were good in the beginning. Now they started cheating as they want to earn more money

We have a goal of replying to emails within 24 hours, and this includes weekends.

Any price changes were notified and the customer has the choice of discontinuing. Any company has the right to increase costs as prices increase. This is not fraud it is business, any prices changes are notified ahead of the change.

To the claims of a scam:
We provide a mail forwarding service, and occasionally we get people who try to forward purchased goods from ebay and similar sites and have us forward the items to them using a stolen credit card. In this case the person used their own credit card to pay us, but used a fake card with the merchant. In this case we received a package from Avon on the 1st of April 2009.

Below we have compiled a draft report of this persons activities:
(person) signed up for an account back in 2008. Both of the accounts (person) has signed up with, now owe us more than NZD $120.

Whilst this does not account for much, this person has abused our services by using our address on their website and for their business whilst claiming they are not using the services provided. By displaying our address a website in on the WHOIS of the site. We can concur (person) is infect using our services and should rightly pay for the privilege to do so.

(person) chose to have merchandise forwarded to our office, rightly knowing our requirement to fill out the correct documentation to receive merchandise.
We have strict policies on the use of our services for merchandise. This is to prevent fraud and eliminate the threat of scammers like (person.) Upon signing up to Private Box we have at least three prompts stating that the PB 130 MUST be filled out in order to receive merchandise. I believe we followed correct protocol in dealing with his non-compliance.
    Private Box Procedure for non-compliance:
1, E-mail is sent out to client informing them that we need this form.
2, Automated system message is sent to user informing them that we need this form. This is sent out in an email and in a message which can be read through their account.
3, Failure to provide us with the correct documentation within 14 days results in temporary account closure of up to 8 weeks, which by this time the account is permanently closed.

We take this process very seriously and all customers are made aware of this when signing up to our services.

In our terms and conditions we state:
“Private Box classifies merchandise as any goods or products including commodities, materials, supplies, and equipment, which can be purchased within New Zealand or Internationally. Private Box is certified to receive all types of mail, however high valued items require extra care. Therefore Private Box requires a copy of the PB 130 to be submitted in order to receive high valued items…”

“..Failure to submit the PB 130 documentation prior to the reception of merchandise may result in account suspension. The customer will be notified of this and will have up to 8 weeks to resolve the issue. Failure to complete this process will result in the items being returned to sender…”
“.. Account closure based on illegal or improper use of services; If management have reasonable grounds based on solid evidence, your account may be suspended permanently…”

“.. On closure of any account Private Box is obliged to refund the balance of the customer’s account minus any expenses incurred…”

We closed (persons) account and on request we refunded the amount we believed should be refunded. The item concerned was processed, stored and sent back at our own cost which we calculate to be much more than we received.

To this day (person) displays the addresses we supplied from two separate accounts on the website ip.org.nz and on the Whois of this site.

The above post by PrivatBox is again an evidence that they are not a real company and one man operation. Only one person is doing all the works…yes…

He never follows any policies…I never received any email about account suspension or merchandise. Only when I asked about account suspension, they were telling about merchandise and form…

Dear Viewers of this post, please don't loose your privacy with this scam company. They will simply claim that you are acting fraudulent and will say that Privacy Policy is not protecting you…

  • privatebox

This is a real company; with over 4000 registered customers we can't be fraudulent. The privacy policy statement refers to any illegal activities, by breaking the law we cannot protect you from law agencies.

If you have a complaint, you should first contact us directly, support [at] privatebox.co.nz.
Failing a resolution; within New Zealand’s law you have many avenues to lay a formal complaint. This is not the place to make such allegations.

  • innocenttrapped

4000 registered customers? I don't know how many of them were cheated by you…

If any law agency ask the details, you may provide them. But you can not decide yourself and tell that the privacy policy will not protect….anyway if anybody wants to sign up with you, they will read these posts and will understand whether it is one man company operated by only one person or a real company.

I contacted you through email several times, and when I didn't get a proper solution, I came here to post. It is the place to post, because all these posts will come in search engines when you search for privatebox.co.nz and will save several innocents from falling in your trap..
