Apple's Cook Finally Shows Some Personality

Google often hits the headlines for controversial reasons.  But its latest project should have everyone flocking to get a closer view.

The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most stunning places on earth.  It is also something that most of us will only see in pictures.  The best course of action is to see it for real, but if you cannot do this, you should head over to Google Earth to see the results of Google’s efforts to bring its wonders in front of a wider audience.

The principle is the same as Google Street View.  Instead of taking pictures of streets, the team has taken pictures of the Great Barrier Reef.  Once the service goes live you will be able to pick a spot on the reef to dive into, and you can see a 360° panoramic view of it on your computer screen.  This is an exciting project run in association with the Catlin Seaview Project, and it will kick off in September.

Even if you have seen the Great Barrier Reef and dived there for real, you should still look out for the Panoramio project when it launches.  It will take you down further than most people dive, so there is still more to be discovered – all from the comfort of your computer.  No diving experience needed and no wetsuit either – all the best the Great Barrier Reef has to offer with none of the downsides.
