Some will probably view this move from the social media giant as a sleight of hand act.  It has been announced at the same time as Google’s new privacy policy is under the spotlight, leading some to wonder whether Facebook has done this deliberately in order to call less attention to the huge influx of ads its users are now likely to see.

The adverts are going to be launched on millions of mobile devices people are currently using to interact with Facebook.  If you like a particular brand and you have indicated this by giving it the thumbs up via the Like button, you could now find you get deals and other ads from them appearing in your news feed.

The heat is definitely on Facebook to indicate that it is worth the huge sums of money that are likely to be associated with it when it comes to its IPO.  If it cannot generate large sums of money in the future, the amount it is worth is likely to be questioned by lots of different people.

Many in the business are not surprised that Facebook has announced this move now.  While everyone is questioning the legality of Google’s latest privacy policy, Facebook is taking advantage and launching its new ad service.  The truth will be in the final result, when we see whether the ads annoy users or prove to be a worthwhile addition to the social media site.
