Dark Sky is a weather app for the iPad and iPhone. On the iPad, it has large graphic with stunning visuals and excellent, up-to-the-minute forecasting and information. Between its beautiful graphical display and fast-access information delivery, it’s the best weather app I’ve tried to-date.
Imagine having the weather shown on the nightly news, but delivered anytime you want it and without the weatherman standing in front of the map. Imagine having access to Doppler radar, satellite imagery, storm-tracking, and more just by pressing a button and watching on your iOS device.
That’s what Dark Sky delivers: TV-worthy graphics interfaces with the latest weather information and forecasting.
The app gets its name from the innovative way it displays satellite radar imagery. By making the sky “black” (aka “going dark”), the clouds and cover can be shown in 3-dimensional radar showing thick spots and areas of activity clearly in reds and oranges.
Information is fast and intuitive. The app automatically centers its display and forecasting on your current GPS location in your phone or iPad. From there, you can move around a map, enter a specific location (by ZIP code or city/state), etc. You can zoom in and out of your current location with finger gestures and more. Swapping between a traditional map and the Dark Sky look is a quick click and getting forecasts by the day, hour, or minute is just a screen flick away.
Definitely a great app and well worth getting.
