A new mobile app for Skype has been unveiled recently following the launch of Windows 8. With an always-on function similar to the desktop version, Skype on Windows Phone 8 is an app for people on the go.
Through the app, calls on Skype are received in the same way as regular calls with the use of the same incoming call screen. The call can easily be identified because of the small Skype image as a visual cue and the unique sound of the Skype ring.
Even if the phone is locked or the user is using other apps, the new app will always work in the background so that users will not miss any important calls. It is still up to you as the user to decide if you want to be visible on the network and it is also possible to limit who is allowed to call you.
Additionally, users can receive notifications through the app’s live tile. It also has a neat, Windows-style layout just like the desktop version.
The app is also unified with the Microsoft People app that lets users place a Skype call right from inside the app. Once connected to a Microsoft account, the contact details of your friends from Windows Messenger will sync as Skype contacts as well.
Skype on Windows phone is another breakthrough for Microsoft. Enabling users to receive a call despite using other apps is fantastic as it breaks barriers to help people stay connected throughout the world.
