Those Web 2.0 Verdicts: They’re Coming…

As you know a few days ago I made some predictions for 2006 and it seems some of them are starting to come true already. There are some others, but for this post I’ll specifically focus on the Web 2.0 verdicts one (you know, the one where some companies will live, while the others die).

I’m an avid blog reader, as a blogger is, and recently, I noticed something interesting. What I noticed is that while Technorati seems to be getting praises and (in my personal opinion) getting better, Feedster on the other hand seems to be getting death warnings and simply degrading over time (especially since the company’s two Scotts departed). Hmm, interesting isn’t it. While Feedster’s two main folks realised that it’s time to move on and very possibly didn’t see a future ahead with Feedster (how did they make money anyway?), the journey for Technorati is just beginning and I bet Dave Sifry is happy about this.

The other thing I predicted was that AOL will acquire Technorati and I’m still keeping my word. I think what’s gonna happen is, like the others, some company (my prediction: AOL) is gonna acquire Technorati for the big bucks, a few million, and eventually you’ll see a better-than-ever Technorati (just like Weblogs, Inc), just booming. This will of course be a good sign for the blogosphere as we will get more cool stuff from Technorati, but something sad would be seeing Feedster fade away despite of some of its other co-founder’s (who’s still with Feedster) promises (”There are several new business initiatives to be launched in 2006 that will highlight some of my development both domestically and internationally.”)

In all this, I have to say, Blogdigger is still my personal preference and favourite RSS search engine and it’ll only get better as well — as its awesome search results prove. GYMA (Google Yahoo! MSN AOL): [hint, hint].

    Thanks Sid!

I think we are going to see many services focus more on the bottom line this year; cool and useful services are nice, but when it comes to a business they have to make money. It’s not always related to the public facing side of things.
