Netvibes announced on its blog today that they will be integrating a Meebo module in their service which allows users to use Meebo (e.g. IM on MSN, AIM, Google Talk, Yahoo!, and Jabber) using their service. This in itself doesn't make too much of a new and of course that's not why I'm writing about it, but I think it marks an important milestone where Netvibes and Meebo, arguably the best services in their niche (Meebo - web-based AJAX multi-IM, Netvibes - web-based AJAX desktop) actually integrate and recognise each other's importance.
For the users, this is of course better than anything. If you're a Netvibes user, you get a new module and you can say goodbye to having a seperate Meebo tab open or worse still have four different IM windows running and clogging up your computer. This is the point I think it's all starting to come together and more of this kind of integration would be necessary for Web 2.0 to succeed as a whole.
I love Netvibes although I'm not a daily-fanatic, and the same goes for Meebo, although I do know that if Netvibes pulls off more of this kind of integration, I'd switch in a heartbeat.
